Melissa Dyson Appointed U-M's Associate Attending Veterinarian, Deputy Director of ULAM

Melissa Dyson, DVM, DACLAMMelissa Dyson, DVM, MS, DACLAM has been appointed the new Deputy Director of the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM)
and Associate Attending Veterinarian (AV) of the University of Michigan effective March 1, 2018.

 
In this new role, Dr. Dyson will support William King, DVM, PhD, DACLAM, Assistant Vice President for Research – Animal Resources; University Attending Veterinarian; and Executive Director of ULAM in the development and implementation of ULAM’s strategic plans and policies, and provide direction to both ULAM faculty and leadership teams.

As the Associate AV, Dyson will assist with guidance and oversight of the Animal Care & Use Program, including the exploration of new data-gathering and assessment strategies that support a culture of responsible research conduct. She will maintain her role as Director of the ULAM Training Core, managing all animal care and use training and education programs at the University.
 
Dr. Dyson previously served as the Interim Attending Veterinarian/Director of ULAM, where she showed tremendous poise and leadership throughout our most recent AAALAC accreditation site visit. Dyson first joined the University of Michigan in 2005 after completing a residency in Comparative Medicine at the University of Missouri in conjunction with the Research Animal Diagnostic Laboratories. Dr. Dyson received her veterinary degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
