Valerie Hill Named ULAM’s New Chief Department Administrator – Director of Campus Animal Resources

Valerie HillValerie Hill, BS, CMAR, LATg has been appointed the new Chief Department Administrator – Director of Campus Animal Resources for the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) effective June 1, 2018.

In this newly created position, Valerie will provide leadership for, and oversight of, ULAM business and finance operations, including the strategic management of animal care space. As the Director of Campus Animal Resources, she will continue to serve as a liaison for ULAM and the Animal Care & Use Program to both Medical School and campus leadership on strategic initiatives to improve animal resource and husbandry operations across campus.

Over the course of her 20 years of service to the University of Michigan, Valerie has shown tremendous tenacity for the growth and success of our Program and our research community. A nationally recognized professional in the field of laboratory animal sciences (LAS), she has completed the highest levels of AALAS certification and has a long history of involvement with several LAS organizations. It is this unparalleled work ethic and proven commitment to excellence that have been so vital to the efficacy of our animal care mission, and that will be leveraged to help build ULAM’s bright future.

A national search will be conducted to permanently fill Valerie’s previous position. Carrie Childs-Thor, BS, RLATg, CMAR, Vivarium Operations Manager, has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Managing Director of Husbandry Operations during this transition period.
