Year-End Census Count Starts in September

August 29, 2017

The Animal Care & Use Office gathers a full count of animal usage and daily census once a year from all Principal Investigators to coincide with the end of the USDA Fiscal Year, September 30.

Animal acquisitions that have not already been reported should be submitted in eRAM as soon as possible, and no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017. These include any animals culled from litters and/or not used in research, animals from field research, or aquatics, which should be reported using the Non-Traditional Animal Acquisition Form in eRAM.

As members of such a large research institution, we rely on our PIs and laboratory members to provide us with this critical information, including the number of animals used in unrelieved pain and distress models, long-term restraint models, and exceptions to regulations.

Thank you for responding to this request in a timely manner, and for your continued assistance with this annual process, both are greatly appreciated.

Questions or concerns should be directed to Laura King in the Animal Care & Use Office at laurakin@umich.edu or (734) 615-7032.
