Continuing Education is not only vital to our Program’s success, it also actively promotes excellence in biomedical research by keeping research personnel knowledgeable of advancements in laboratory animal science, and apprised of important updates to the policies and practices of the U-M Animal Care & Use Program.
To support the continued development and education of our research personnel, the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) has instituted a three-year expiration date for all required online training.
This applies to online ULAM training classes in the areas of:
- Orientation to Animal Care & Use at the University of Michigan
- Introduction to Species
- Survival Surgery
- Hazard Containment
This does not apply to in-person ULAM workshops.
How You Will Be Affected
Online training will be assigned to your MLearning Plan based on the animal handling details of your IACUC protocol. Please note: new protocols, protocol amendments, and protocol renewals will be approved upon completion of all required training. Once you have completed all requisite online training classes, you will not be prompted to retake training until you near your next three-year expiration date.
When You Will Be Affected
If you have been assigned IACUC required training, you will receive an email from MLearning notifying you that training is due. You may also log in to MLearning (https://trainingportal.med.umich.edu) at any time to review your Learning Plan.
Principal Investigators and designated Laboratory Contacts are encouraged to monitor IACUC training requirements for their protocol through Protocol Training Reports in eRAM. See the “Training” tab in your eRAM Protocol Workspace for up-to-date training information or review this webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to access these reports.
