As an important reminder, the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) can conduct unannounced inspections of registrants and their laboratories. The DEA is a law enforcement agency, and both the state and DEA can assess civil and criminal penalties. Non-compliance violations can result in increasing levels of penalty, including:
- Letter of Admonition
- $10,000 fine to the licensee/registrant for each violation
- Suspension or revocation of a controlled substance practitioner and/or research license and registration
- Prison sentence
Please take a moment to review and share the detailed inspection guidelines available on the UMOR Research Compliance-Controlled Substances website.
Contact Kelli Christman, the UMOR Controlled Substances Monitor, immediately if you are contacted by representatives of the State of Michigan or DEA regarding regulatory requirements or a site visit. Kelli will arrive as soon as possible to assist you in person.
If you are unable to reach Kelli by phone, she is available 24/7 by Health System pager:
