Profile

Dr. Yao Lee joined the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Pathology Core as a veterinary pathologist and ULAM faculty member in July 2023. In this position, she provides diagnostic service for clinical cases, pathologic service for non-clinical research, and teaching for ULAM residents. Dr. Lee did anatomic pathology residency training in the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University (first year), and in the Division of Comparative Medicine at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (second and third years). She learned both diagnostic pathology and comparative pathology from her post-DVM graduate school research and veterinary anatomic pathology residency; covering species from domestic small & large animals, exotic animals, and lab animal species.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Yao Lee’s primary research interests are virus research, immunology, and virus-host interactions. Previous projects included pathogenesis of porcine circovirus, pathology of porcine torque teno sus virus in wasting pigs, feline and equine herpes viruses’ vaccine development, innate immunity of respiratory epithelial cells, as well as circulating cellular clusters in COVID-19 human patients. She is enthusiastic about supporting research and building up collaborations with other investigators.
