As Assistant Manager of Husbandry Services, Joe is responsible for aiding the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Animal Husbandry Management Team with the day-to-day operations of numerous animal care facilities, including assistance with animal housing, shipping, and transport services; facility and equipment maintenance; monitoring of cage/room environmental conditions; and general oversight of the standards of care for all animals housed on campus.
Professional Background
Prior to joining the university in 2017, Mr. Szcodronski served as an operations manager with the animal care programs at both the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and Vanderbilt University, where he was responsible for the daily operations of each institution’s vivaria. Before working in a university setting, Joe began his career in animal care as a zookeeper with the Nashville Zoo.
Mr. Szcodronski has completed Institute for Laboratory Animal Management (ILAM) training and is a Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR). He received his Bachelor of Science in Anthropology – Zoology from the University of Michigan.
