During this time, you should anticipate a visit to all animal housing locations on campus, as well as visits to many laboratories.
As we work toward the collective goal of optimizing and refining our processes to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, it is incumbent upon all of us – as individuals and members of the U-M research community – to actively participate in preparations leading up to this important Site Visit.
Our Program has developed myriad tools, events, and resources to help guide and inform your preparation efforts:
- Five AAALAC Essentials – Every laboratory should finish – at a minimum – five essential actions prior to the AAALAC Site Visit. Use this checklist (available via PDF download using valid Level-1 login credentials) to get started.
- Attend an AAALAC Preparation Meeting – For your convenience, meetings will be hosted across campus throughout the end of April and all of May. One member from each laboratory should plan to attend either an AAALAC Preparation Town Hall or Spring 2023 ULAM Faculty Vet Check-In Meeting.
- Designate Your AAALAC Spokesperson – Use this form, now available in eRAM, to identify a spokesperson(s) in your laboratory that will be available to meet with the AAALAC Site Visit Team.
- Build Your AAALAC Blueprint – Customize your preparation path by selecting specific topics of interest based on your laboratory’s research and receive a curated list of recommended resources to focus your preparation efforts.
Finally, please know that we are diligently working on a Site Visit Schedule, and will distribute this information as soon as it becomes available. As is customary, we anticipate releasing the final schedule approximately one week before the Site Visit.
We ask that you continue to remain vigilant to email and newsletter announcements in the coming weeks and months as we share additional details about the 2023 Site Visit.
We understand that you already receive a high volume of emails at an institution of our size, and thank you in advance for prioritizing these communications. Bookmark the AAALAC webpage (animalcare.umich.edu/aaalac) for quick access to future news and updates.
On behalf of our many campus partners and dedicated animal care teams, we thank you for working with us to ensure that this re-accreditation visit is a success.
