Reminders and Best Practices for Animal Care & Use Program Training
Maintaining a comprehensive training and education program is essential to the U-M’s ongoing commitment to sustained excellence and compassion in animal care and use.
To that end, all faculty and staff who work with animals in the conduct of their teaching or research are encouraged to review the following reminders and best practices for Animal Care & Use Program training:

RETAKE ONLINE TRAINING FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION The Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) expanded animal care and use training to include continuing education to ensure that individuals remain knowledgeable of advancements in laboratory animal science and apprised of important updates to the policies and practices of the U-M Animal Care & Use Program. Eligible research personnel will be prompted to retake Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) animal care and use online training every three years. Please note: this does NOT apply to in-person training workshops, which are completed once. |

COMPLETE TRAINING ULAM animal care and use training is required by the IACUC based on the specific tasks you will perform for the protocol, and as indicated in your animal handling details. Log in to Cornerstone Learning (https://michmed.csod.com/samldefault.aspx) to complete the IACUC required online training found in your Transcript. |

CHECK FOR TRAINING DUE BEFORE SUBMITTING NEW AMENDMENTS AND PROTOCOLS Principal Investigators and Laboratory Contacts are encouraged to check training due for the protocol prior to submitting a new amendment, protocol, or protocol renewal. This will avoid unnecessary delay(s) in receiving approval from the Animal Care & Use Office for new amendments and protocols. |
