As members of one of the world’s leading research universities, we have been afforded the great privilege of working with animals to pursue life-changing advances in science and medicine.
To honor the innumerable contributions that laboratory animals have made – and will continue to make – to research discoveries across our campus and beyond, we are pleased to announce the opening of the U-M Animal Care & Use Program’s Compassion Reflection Garden.
The event will take place on Friday, June 13, from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM at the North Campus Research Complex, and feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, remarks from senior leadership, a rock painting activity, and light refreshments. RSVPs are respectfully requested by Wednesday, May 21, at 5:00 PM.
The garden will remain open year-round for members of the U-M research community to visit at any time. The space will feature a rock garden, bench, and plaque dedicated to the animals that have been entrusted to our individual and collective care.
The planning for this space was led by the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine’s (ULAM) Compassion Awareness Project. Learn more about the important work of this ULAM initiative, find resources for addressing compassion fatigue, and explore how to get involved in future events by visiting the Compassion Awareness Project webpage.
