Kathy Ignatoski, PhD, has recently joined the Quality Assurance (QA) Team in the Animal Care & Use Office (ACUO).

In her new role, Kathy will be responsible for:

  • Conducting QA visits with investigators to improve their compliance confidence;
  • Identifying impediments to the conduct of sound research; and
  • Serving as an advocate and educational resource for the U-M research community, with a focus on assisting researchers with their Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) applications.

Kathy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the QA Team, including 30+ years in all levels of research โ€“ postdoc, research investigator, PI, lab manager, and safety coordinator.

Prior to joining the QA Team, Kathy was the research compliance liaison for the Center for Basic and Translational Science (CBATS) in the U-M Department of Surgery, where she helped over 15 labs with safety issues and IRB, IBC, and IACUC applications.

As the ACUO begins to transition to a more centralized system for providing compliance-related support to U-M researchers, Kathy โ€“ along with the entire QA Team โ€“ will be stepping in to assist the Research Compliance Team with protocol-related questions.

Questions about IACUC facility inspections, processing protocols and amendments, or guidance on interpreting federal animal care and use regulations should be directed to the ACUO Main Office at [email protected] or (734) 763-8028. The Main Office will then route your inquiry to the appropriate team member.

We thank you for your patience during this transition and look forward to optimizing our service and support of your research projects.
