A Message from the Animal Care & Use Program Leadership Team
We are pleased to announce that the University of Michigan has received Continued Full Accreditation from AAALAC International (AAALAC).
In the notification letter received on November 27, the AAALAC Council recognized our entire community β animal care staff and laboratory members β for the tremendous levels of pride, dedication, and commitment to compassionate animal care that were displayed throughout the Site Visit in mid-June.
We greatly appreciate the diligence and attention that each and every one of you gave to preparing for this most important re-accreditation visit.
As you know, AAALAC accreditation is not only critical to the success of our Animal Care & Use Program, but also to the larger U-M research enterprise. Full accreditation demonstrates to our peers, colleagues, and funding agencies that the university values and upholds the highest national and professional standards of humane animal care and use.
The momentum generated by another successful AAALAC Site Visit affords a unique opportunity to assess how our individual and collective efforts can be further refined in support of, and in service to, the animals entrusted to our care and the scientific advancements they enable.
As members of one of the worldβs leading research universities, it is this pursuit of excellence that must continue to guide and inform our work. We hope you share our enthusiasm for these important endeavors.
Thank you for your partnership and support of our Animal Care & Use Program. You play an integral role in fostering a culture of shared responsibility for safe, compliant, and ethical research here at the University of Michigan.
