Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) Faculty Veterinarian Zachary T. Freeman, DVM, PhD, DACLAM, was recently named director of the Transgenic Animal Model Core (TAMC), part of the U-M’s Biomedical Research Core Facilities.
Dr. Freeman has been actively engaged with the TAMC since first joining U-M’s faculty in 2016. In addition to serving as the Core’s Interim Director since 2022, Dr. Freeman has also used the core to generate models for his research and been part of the TAMC Advisory Committee.
Dr. Freeman received his D.V.M. from Colorado State University and his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he also completed his postdoctoral fellowship in laboratory animal medicine.
His research interests include improving the characterization and use of genetically modified animals to increase reproducibility and translational relevance.
Dr. Freeman’s appointment with the TAMC is effective January 1, 2024.
