Beginning on Friday, September 6, 2024, and continuing throughout 2025, the National Institutes of Health Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) will be hosting a free, virtual workshop on “Cryopreservation and Other Preservation Approaches for Animal Models.”
The workshop will be organized into six sessions focused on (1) invertebrate models; (2) aquatic models; (3) technologies and training; (4) rodents; (5) large animal models, including pigs and NHPs; and (6) summaries of the previous sessions.
The goal of the series is to advance the preservation, maintenance, and sharing of these essential models by providing a forum for experts to discuss the needs of cryopreservation and other preservation approaches for animal models that are widely used in biomedical research, including emerging technologies.
Thomas Saunders, Ph.D., University of Michigan (U-M) Research Professor Emeritus and former director of U-M’s Transgenic Animal Model Core, will present at Session IV – “Cryopreservation and Other Preservation Methods for Rodent Models in Biomedical Research” – on Wednesday, October 16, from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
Participants are welcome to register for a specific session or the entire series on the ORIP website. Zoom links will be shared via email after registration.
