Help Available for Media Inquiries

April 15, 2020

Icon showing different media types with question marksHave you received an inquiry from a reporter or media outlet asking about your COVID-19 research or about how your studies are being impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 situation?

Teams from both the Michigan Medicine Department of Communication and the U-M Office of Public Affairs are here to help you field these kinds of requests.

  • If you are part of Michigan Medicine, please contact the Department of Communication at (734) 764-2220 or DeptComm-PR-Team@med.umich.edu for assistance with responding to inquiries. If you are involved in clinical COVID-19 research, or research using clinical samples or data from Michigan Medicine, this is especially critical.
  • If you are not part of Michigan Medicine (e.g., any central campus school/college/unit), please forward any media inquiries you receive to the U-M Office of Public Affairs at (734) 936-5190 or public.affairs@umich.edu.

We strongly encourage you to reach out to either communications office PRIOR TO responding to any inquiry you receive. It may be appropriate for a representative from either Michigan Medicine or Public Affairs to speak to the media on your behalf.

Or, if you are to serve as a spokesperson, you may be more comfortable receiving some coaching, tips, and tricks on how to talk with the media.

Remember, our teams are here to offer guidance and support on the most effective ways to share and promote your research across campus, via social media, and with external media outlets.
