January 29, 2024

Personal vehicle and public transportation prohibited iconTo ensure animal health and welfare and minimize exposure to environmental stressors that may alter study results, transporting live animals in vehicles NOT specifically designed for such purposes (e.g., personal cars or public transportation) is generally NOT permitted.

Transporting animals in personal vehicles is ONLY permissible AFTER the following requirements have been met:

  1. The IACUC approved protocol includes a justification for why transport in such vehicles is necessary,
  2. Any proposed transportation methods have been discussed with a ULAM Faculty Veterinarian, and
  3. The standards outlined by the Procedures for Animal Transportation are adhered to at all times.

Transporting animals on public transportation

Consistent with state and federal regulations, live animals should never be taken on a public transit system, including the U-M Bio Research Shuttle or U-M campus buses.
