New per-diem rates for Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) husbandry services will go into effect on January 1, 2023.
ULAM rates are evaluated on an individual case-by-case basis to determine appropriate cost recovery, consistent with the NIH’s Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities.
Rates will continue to be re-evaluated on an annual basis coinciding with the end of each calendar year.
While ULAM strives to prevent rate fluctuation through the use of various fiscal management controls and improvements in operating efficiencies, study teams are strongly encouraged to follow standard best practices for baseline budgeting, which allow for incremental cost changes throughout multi-year grant projects.
