The University of Michigan (U-M) is hosting a free full-day U.S. Customs & Border Protection – Importation of Biological Materials Workshop on Wednesday, September 23, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
The event is open to U-M and guest institution researchers as well as research support staff, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and other research safety professionals.
The workshop will feature representatives from U.S. Customs & Border Protection and other federal agencies who will provide an overview of the import permit process, importation requirements, and best practices for receiving and transporting biological materials for research. Opportunities to engage with federal agency representatives during a question-and-answer session will also be available.
Attendees are welcome to attend for the full day or only the session(s) that are applicable to their work. A complete schedule will be shared closer to the event date. Please note that pre-registration through U-M’s My LINC system 
is required.

Many biological materials entering the United States are subject to federal permitting requirements. Review the Importation of Biological Materials table on U-M’s EHS website to determine whether materials you plan to import may require a federal permit.
