Got Technology? Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays!

Network nodes with "Don't Delay, Plan Today" sign

Does your research proposal involve a software application or technology that requires you to connect to the Michigan Medicine Information Technology (MM IT) infrastructure/network? That technology will require assessment to ensure that it adheres to required security measures.

As early as possible in developing the research plan for the study, contact the Academic IT Division within Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) to start the assessment and approval process for the software or technology.

Early assessment (e.g., at the time of application for funding and PRIOR TO any applicable compliance approvals from IRBMED, IRB-HSBS, IACUC, or the IBC) will avoid delays in study start-up.

Academic IT will assign a Technical Owner to chaperone your technology through the Michigan Medicine Information Assurance Request (MMIAR) yellow lock icon denoting level-1 U-M login required for access process for review and compliance with Information Assurance (IA) security standards. The MMIAR process varies and can take months, so start planning accordingly.

Questions?

If you have additional questions, or are starting a new project and aren’t sure where to begin, please reach out to the Academic IT team to schedule an Introductory Research Consultation. yellow lock icon denoting level-1 U-M login required for access
