The entire Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) team takes great pride in their service and support of the U-M research community’s mission of research to serve the world. In the spirit of this service-oriented mission, we remind you of recent changes to ULAM’s per-diem rates (available via PDF download), which went into effect on April 1, 2026.
Study Teams should expect to see the new rates reflected on their month-end billing statements available in eRAM on or after May 1, 2026. As a reminder, all existing ULAM animal husbandry and housing service rates were extended in December 2025 to collect additional data for financial analysis.
The new rates, which have been approved by the University’s Enterprise Financial Planning & Analysis Office (EFP&A), incorporate the data collected as part of this analysis. EFP&A routinely reviews ULAM rates on an individual case-by-case basis to ensure alignment with institutional and federal expectations for direct cost recovery as well as adherence to the procedures outlined in the NIH’s Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities.
Rates will continue to be evaluated annually to coincide with the end of the calendar year.
