Several service areas within the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) will be closed or operating at limited capacity during the U-M’s upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, observed Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024.
Below is a list of ordering and submission deadlines that may have a direct impact on the U-M research community.
To ensure that your research needs are met quickly and efficiently, please review and share these schedules with your team, plan ahead, and act early.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY HOURS
Animal Ordering and Deliveries
No animal deliveries will be received the week of November 25, 2024.
- Order by Tuesday, November 12 – to receive your delivery the week of November 18, 2024
- Order by Thursday, November 21 – to receive your delivery during or after the week of December 2, 2024**
**Please note: Deliveries occurring on or near holidays may be subject to additional delays depending on each individual vendor’s schedule and availability.

ULAM Pathology Core
ULAM’s Pathology Core will be closed beginning at 12:00 PM (noon) on Wednesday, November 27 – Friday, November 29, 2024.
Sample submission deadlines BEFORE the Thanksgiving holiday are as follows:
- 4:00 PM on Friday, November 22 – for histology
- 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26 – for hematology/chemistry/send-outs
These deadlines were chosen to allow Pathology Core staff sufficient time before the break to process samples to a stable stage. CBCs must be completed within 24 hours of receipt, and paraffin histology samples are stable once they reach the embedding stage.
Samples that do not need processing prior to the holiday (frozen serum, glass slides, paraffin blocks) can be submitted by appointment up until the closing date; no work will be done during the time period that the ULAM Pathology Core is closed.
As a reminder, sample submission is by appointment only. Study teams are strongly encouraged to book their appointments early, particularly if they anticipate a large submission, in order to help Pathology Core staff plan their workflows accordingly.
Both ULAM Pathology Core locations will re-open on Monday, December 2, at 9:00 AM.

ULAM Technical Services
ULAM Technical Services are currently unavailable during weekends and holidays, and have limited availability from Monday, November 25 – Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
All requests for services/support during these dates should be submitted via the Technical Services Request Form no later than Monday, November 4.
