New ULAM Husbandry Per-Diem Rates Go Into Effect January 1, 2020

December 6, 2019

January 1, 2020 red and white calendar reminder iconAs the veterinary and animal care providers for 800+ active protocols at the University, we in the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) take great pride in our service and support of the U-M research community.

In the spirit of ULAM’s service-oriented mission, we want to remind you of upcoming changes to ULAM husbandry per-diem rates effective January 1, 2020. View the list of revised per-diem rates that have been reviewed and approved by the University’s Financial Analysis Office.

We recognize that even the smallest rate fluctuations carry important implications for your grant budgets, project planning, and, ultimately, research. That is why we have evaluated these rates on an individual, case-by-case basis, consistent with the National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s Cost Analysis and Rate Setting Manual for Animal Research Facilities.

Rates will be re-evaluated on an annual basis coinciding with the end of each calendar year. While we will continue using various fiscal management controls to improve our operating efficiencies and prevent or minimize any fluctuating or increased rates, you are strongly encouraged to follow standard best practices for baseline budgeting, which allow for incremental cost changes throughout multi-year grant projects.
